IN CHARACTER INFORMATION
Name: Lara Keller (Genderswapped RED Medic)
Canon: Team Fortress 2
OU/AU/OC: AU (From a fic I wrote ages ago)
Canon Point: Nothing significant; Lara has been fighting with the RED mercenaries for a little while now.
History: Lara Keller was born in Stuttgart, Germany. She grew up loving literature and fascinated by medicinal practices. Displaying an amazing talent for these fields, and a bare-minimum level of patience for anything else, she entered medical school as soon as she could, and very quickly discovered that she had no strong interest in healing people. What she did love was experimenting, and discovering new things about the human body. She decided to continue her medical training, but never bothered entering a practice, instead becoming a sort of freelance doctor-for-hire. Because she worked well and cheap, she was often contracted as a sort of black-market doctor, which allowed her to work with people with all sorts of fun and original injuries and conditions. She eventually was hired by Reliable Excavation and Demolition, an American company, to be a part of their mercenary team in charge of acquiring new territory for the company to use for resources.
In Lara's world, the savage and endless struggle between the mercenaries of Redmond and Blutarch Mann have, on the labor level, taken on a much more structured approach. Several bases have been established around crucial disputed territories. Fully equipped with lockers, showers, a break room, and revivification pods for restoring fighters who die in battle, these rooms serve as each team's base of operations for the fighting that goes on outside, and routinely change hands every few hours when the territory is active. After realizing that they basically had two immortal armies on their hands, two former members of the teams made an agreement on a set of rules for the mercenaries to follow, just to make everything easier. Combat starts at 9am, and continues until about noon. There is an hour's break for lunch and regenerating lost teammates, and then fighting continues from 1pm until five, when both teams pack up and go back to their home base.
However, very few of the mercenaries are aware of the upper workings of their teams; most of them are content to have an outlet for their violent tendencies, or a sanctioned space to practice their strange sciences. Lara's rival and "friend" during her university years was a man named Karl Fruehauf, who shared her passion for biological exploration. After graduation, they lost contact; Karl had planned to become a medical researcher for Mann Co, an international umbrella corporation based in England, but she never actually heard from him until they encountered each other on the battlefield. Unbeknownst to Lara, Karl had been contracted from his position at Mann Co. to work with the mercenary group of Builder's League United, the company opposing Reliable Excavation and Demolition. This created some friction between them, and redoubled Lara's determination to make her team the healthiest group of mercenaries around, if for no other reason than to outdo Karl one more time.
Personality: Lara has three great loves in her life: The medical sciences, classic literature, and her three fantailed pigeons, Victor, Zhivago, and Moreau. When she's not performing some morally dubious operation or questionable research, she's usually sitting in her armchair, reading some old book or medical text. Having spent so long reading about grand adventures and glorious battles, Lara was very excited when she was hired to be a part of the RED mercenary team and fight in her own battles. While she now realizes that real battle is far from glorious most of the time, she still takes every opportunity to be dramatic when she can.
Despite her position as team medic, Lara cares fairly little, on an emotional level at any rate, for the well-being of her teammates. For her, keeping her team healthy is a matter of professional obligation. However, she is also fairly pragmatic, and will not hesitate to ignore healing some people over others if she deems it more tactically viable. Her bedside manner is also lacking, usually far more interested in the illness of the patient and how it is cured than the patient themselves. She is very proud of her title and skill as a doctor, and will defend the scientific merits of medicinal research to the very end. This is usually in response to people asking whether or not her actions actually qualify as scientific research.
Lara is the granddaughter of the main canon Medic, and she cherishes her Übersaw, which was passed down as a family heirloom, and which she now giddily wields in battle. Much like her predecessor, Lara carries a sadistic streak, but hers is much more likely to come out in vengeance than in aggression. If she, her profession, or her handywork is insulted in a way that she can't turn around to the person issuing the insult, she will carry a grudge for quite a long time, and take steps to pay them back in excess, becoming almost obsessed with getting even. When not in vengeance mode, however, she takes a sort of casually snarky attitude with the world. She often makes casual literary references, such as likening her contract with RED to Faust's deal with Mephisto, and enjoys making wise-cracks and jeers at her enemies, both before and after their demise. She has a tendency to get caught up in her work, usually indicated by a very broad, uninhibited smile, akin to what one would expect to find on a Hollywood Dr. Frankenstein as he completes his creation.
Strengths: Very knowledgable about biology and the human body, highly skilled with medical technology, mean sawing arm, German
Weaknesses: Not too solid, often lets curiosity get the better of her
Pony/Animal Type: Unicorn
Cutie Mark: Medic class symbol

SAMPLES
First Person: Well, this is a problem. Perhaps "problem" isn't really the word; it's certainly a change, but so far it's more interesting than anything.
Me? Well, I'm Doctor Lara Keller. That's Frau Doktor, if you don't mind. I did earn that title, once.
But that doesn't matter. What does matter is why we are all suddenly small horses. Ponies? I really can't tell. I never bothered with equestrian studies. Horses don't have any of the interesting problems.
Also, has anyone seen some fantail pigeons flying around? They're very sweet. They respond to Victor, Zhivago, and Moreau. If their names don't work, they really enjoy the smell of blood, so you might catch them that way. I'm not positive they came through with me, but if they did, I would really like to have them back. I can give you a free checkup, if you want.
Third Person: After a while of being immersed in a copy of Stevenson's Jekyll and Hyde, Lara looked around to find that the RED common room was completely empty. She smiled; she loved this part of the night. Everyone else had gone to bed, so she got to play some Wagner and read in peace. She stood up from her armchair and softly hummed Ride of the Valkyries as she walked across the room to the CD player. She popped in the disc, and as the music started, she sat back down in her favorite armchair and closed her eyes. She let the music fill her with images of glorious battles between armies in shining armor, beautiful women on powerful winged horses swooping down with their lances, all the blood and battle seeming utterly beautiful to her, and the higher perspective of the valkyries so much more appealing than watching it all from the ground... As she pictured this scene, one of her birds fluttered onto the corner of the armchair. She started awake from the fluttering of the wings. She looked up, and then smiled at the fantail.
"Ah, Zhivago," she said. "Good evening, mein Freund." Zhivago cooed, and hopped a little on his perch. "Is it time for your dinner already?" She asks, feigning surprise. She received another coo in response, this one slightly more urgent. "Vell, in zat case, I shouldn't keep you vaiting!" She stands up and turns to face the birdcage, and stops moving altogether. A rainbow, a little taller than her, was floating in mid-air. Lara pauses for a moment, then looks back to Zhivago.
"Is zis what you vere telling me about?" she asks. She looks back to the rainbow, and starts pacing in a large circle around it. It becomes clear that it's not just a rainbow; it's more like an opening to a rainbow. An opening in what, though? There's nothing there besides thin air... Lara takes a few cautious steps toward the rift. "Gott im Himmel..." she mutters. After a few more moments inspecting it, she starts muttering to herself again. "Well, zere's only von vay to find out..." And, with a deep breath, she steps inside.
